How should my client prep prior to wedding tanning?

As with all wedding planning, it’s all in the prep. About a week or two before your wedding, advise your client to update their daily routine with a few simple steps to ensure they create a good base for their tan. Using the St.Tropez body polish every 2-3 days and moisturising daily will remove any traces of old tan or dry skin. Recommend that any hair removal is done 24 hours prior to tanning as the balm on razors can create a barrier on the skin, preventing a perfect tan. If they’re heading to the salon for a wax, they need to allow a little longer for the skin to settle.

When should my client have their wedding tan?

If they’re wearing white or ivory, their tan will pop a lot more so they should allow a few days for it to tone down. If your client is getting married on a Saturday, they should have their tan on the Thursday to allow 2-3 showers prior to wearing their dress all day. Guests can follow the same rule unless they want a deep dark bronze.

How will my client know which tan to choose?

Book your client in for a tanning trial a few weeks or a month before their big day. Not only is it a great chance for them to pamper themselves before the wedding but it also enables them to decide which tan works best for them. The tan they choose is, of course, a personal choice but it also depends on their dress and when they are getting married. If they are having a winter wedding, they may prefer a more natural glow. Recommend St.Tropez’s self tan express mist and advise they wash off after 1-2 hours, or they could also try the luxurious luxe oil bronzing mist for a gorgeous, subtle tan. For summer weddings, your client may wish to opt for a deeper glow. To achieve this, I recommend using the St.Tropez classic bronzing mist or the express mist, this time washing off after 2-3 hours.

Personally, I would never recommend a dark tan for a Bride because if they are wearing white or ivory, their tan is always going to look darker. They’ll also need to consider other elements such as photographers, lighting and the venue as, in the final photos, these factors may make their tan look different.

What else should my client consider in regards to their wedding tan?

Advise your client to let their make-up artist know they are planning on tanning before their big day. This will allow the artist to match their make-up look to their tan. If your client is wearing a strapless or backless dress, I recommend retailing them the St.Tropez 3-in-1 bronzing powder to highlight collarbones, shoulders and spines. This will add extra definition and provide a gorgeous glow for the special occasion.

Which products are good for hen parties and goody bags?

St.Tropez’s Instant range will provide hens with a quick tanning fix for the big night out. With light/medium and medium/dark shades available, there’s something for everyone. All of the instant range is water resistant, transfer resistant and lasts for 24 hours. The range has also been through gin and tonic spillage testing, making it bullet proof for last night of freedom antics. Clients can also finish off their instant tan with St.Tropez’s instant gloss to add the perfect party sheen.

How can I cater to a variety of different clients, such as Bridesmaids?

St.Tropez’s wardrobe of choice will allow you to cater to every skin type. St.Tropez’s tan works to the individual’s skin tone so someone with fair skin could still choose a deep tan and achieve a natural, healthy look. If someone is nervous about tanning, they may like the St.Tropez gradual range whereas those who like a deeper look should opt for classic self-tanning products.

What should I consider when tanning the Groom?

Tanning is so popular with men these days and it’s important that Grooms feel just as confident on their wedding day. For male clients who are skeptical about tanning, our gradual tan in-shower lotion is a great, discreet way to go about tanning as they can subtly build their glow into their shower routine. If they are happy to go for a spray tan, I recommend St.Tropez’s self tan classic mist, a favourite amongst many famous St.Tropez male tanners. If they aren’t keen on the feeling of leaving it on for eight hours then they can opt for express and wash off quicker. Sprays are great for men as they blend well with body hair and for those who have beards. Use a soft buffing mitt to buff in the tan for an even coverage.

What advice can I give to client’s who struggle to tan their hands without patchiness?

Every Bride is always eager to show off their wedding ring after the occasion however, a patchy tan can make them self-conscious. Hands are an area that many struggle with but the following tips will ensure seamless tanning for your client:

1) St.Tropez sprays are great to ensure an air brush finish on areas like hands. Advise your client to use a spray as a finishing touch, even if they have used a mousse for the rest of their body. Recommend that clients form their hand into a ‘claw’, spreading their fingers wide apart. They should then spray six inches away from the hand so the mist falls naturally and evenly onto the skin.

2) Hands always tend to fade quicker than the rest of the body so recommend that your client uses the self tan classic face lotion as hand lotion to ensure a prolonged tan. Advise them to wipe palms and finger nails after using this product.

3) Clients should apply a pea-sized amount of moisturiser to the inside of wrists to ensure an even fade and avoid any patchiness.

4) Advise your client to opt for nude or neutral toned nail polishes to allow their tan, and their gorgeous ring, to stand out.
