How to prepare your business for the festive season

It’s December already and only a few weeks until Christmas. But don’t panic, we have got some tips on how to prepare your business for the festive season. So grab a glass of mulled wine, a mince pie and read on…

Festive and inviting

Your shop window, whether it’s physical or online, is extremely important. Enhance your window display, website and social media channels with beautiful, festive decorations to make it feel inviting. If you have a salon, maybe add a little bit of holly, some baubles and a Christmas tree to get your staff and customers in the Christmas spirit!

If you have any products on offer, make sure they are displayed well in a place where they cannot be missed. Gift wrapping is a great way to entice customers to purchase products on offer.

Offers

Christmas is a great time to maximise revenue. Consider offering your clients party packages, Gift vouchers and discounted treatments. They make great gifts and could also help improve the slow start to the year in January. Display them in a festive hamper basket near your reception area and get your staff to promote your selection of “perfect stocking fillers”. You could even have a staff incentive to see who can sell the most over the Christmas period, with a prize for the winner.

Make it special

Create an experience and make your clients feel welcome by offering them a drink, maybe some mulled wine or prosecco and a mince pie. It’s the little things like this that make clients leave with a smile on their faces. Also, if they enjoy the whole experience they are more likely to tell people about you and your business.

VIP’s and loyal customers

Why not have a mini Christmas party with your most loyal customers. This can include some mini treatments, food, drinks and music. A more relaxed atmosphere than usual will make the clients feel as though they are part of the family. Send them home with a goodie bag containing some of the products you sell. This could lead to purchases in the future or give them ideas for Christmas presents for their family and friends.

Social media

Social media is a fabulous way to interact with customers and possible clients. Why not do a “Christmas selfie competition” to win a free or discounted treatment in the New Year. This will boost engagement, create a buzz around your business and could help to fill up your appointment book in the slower months of the New Year.

It is also a fantastic way to spread information and news. Whether you are changing your opening times during the festive season, offering new treatments or are proud of something your business has recently achieved, make sure you post it on your social channels to let your clients know!

Have a bit of fun

How about having a personalised portable photo booth in your salon to take fun pictures of your clients and staff. Show off a client’s new hair style or manicure and post it on social media and tag them so that their friends and family can see the pictures to promote engagement. Show your social followers that you are feeling festive, jolly and provide pleasing treatments.

A cracker of a playlist

We all love a Christmas song, but ensure your salon still has a relaxing atmosphere by keeping the volume low and soothing. Try to find alternatives to the usual over played Christmas songs, or mix it up by creating a big playlist with a mix of Christmas tunes and some chart music.

Don’t over book yourself

We know you want to maximise revenue as much as possible during the Christmas period, but don’t let the quality of your work slip.

Look after your staff

They may have to work extra hours during the festive season, however make sure they are happy and don’t feel too stressed. Letting them know you appreciate their hard work is always nice.

Keep topped up

This may be very obvious for some, but sometimes with the rush and stress of everything else, topping up on essentials can be forgotten about. Suppliers may not be open during the Christmas break so make sure you are stocked up for the Christmas season and don’t miss out on some great offers.

Thank you

Send your clients a thank you email or card to thank them for their custom over the past year, wishing them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You could personalise the message with a festive themed picture of you and your team in Christmas outfits.
